Out of the Darkness

About The Album: In early 2009 my marriage ended. At that moment, I was forced to let go of what I was comfortable with and move forward with my life in an unfamiliar direction. I felt lost and I couldn't imagine ever finding love or happiness again. I turned to my piano for solace and the music that emerged from within has become the story of my journey to healing. While the beginning of this album describes the suffering I endured, the tale being told is that of joy... my journey out of the darkness and into true happiness and peace. Enjoy. 1. FORSAKEN This song tells the story of the argument and the battle that ensued from the moment my ex said he was leaving to the moment he was gone. 2. THE DESCENT This song tells the story of the downward spiral of sadness and despair I went through before I realized I was going to survive and be ok. 3. INDIGNATION For a long time I felt incredibly angry and resentful for what had happened. This song describes that feeling of hatred and resentment. 4. FORBEARANCE This song is about the moment I resigned to my loss... acceptance of my fate as it were... with full realization that the only thing I could control was my own happiness and myself. 5. OUT OF THE DARKNESS After accepting that things were truly over, I realized that happiness is of my own making. This song is about emerging victorious after being beaten down. 6. SO LONG MR. SELFISH This song was inspired by my friend Jennifer who suggested that I "write an angry song" to release some of the overwhelming emotion I was experiencing. When I sat down to write, this is what came out of me. I find this song to be more comical and snide than angry, and I think the title as well as the music honestly portrays how I feel about saying goodbye to this part of my past. 7. TRANSFORMATION I went through a period of cleansing, where I changed my outlook, my surroundings, my attitude. I rearranged, purging my house and my mind of unnecessary clutter. I reorganized, cleaned... transformed. 8. PERSEVERANCE Letting go is ultimately my biggest challenge in live. Just when I thought I was ready to move on, emotional setbacks would stand as obstacles in my way. I would regain my strength, stand tall and not let these hindrances hold me down. 9. FINDING SOLACE IN FRIENDS Spending time with friends after my divorce was a ray of light in my journey out of the darkness. My friends helped carry me along my path to happiness. I am so very grateful to my friends for lifting me up and bringing joy into my life during the darkest of moments. 10. NEW LIGHT I remember one morning; I awoke with the deepest feeling of joy. I looked out my window and it was a beautiful day, sunshine illuminating the world outside. At that moment I felt so alive. I was filled with such a deep sense of happiness and contentment and this song portrays that feeling of joy. 11. IN THE STILLNESS OF PEACE There has been many times where I sat quietly by myself, contemplating my life and the events that have shaped me into the person I am today. Many times, while practicing this sort of meditation, I feel deeply at peace while I reflect. This song reminds me of that time I take for myself. 12. REJOICE This song portrays such a profound sense of happiness to me. It reminds me of my struggle, that I never thought I'd survive, and of how much has changed and can happen in the span of a year. This song, to me, is the ultimate song of gratitude and celebration.
